The most wonderful time of the year is here. In New York already starting in November, with several highlights across the City. There is really no better way to celebrate December than Christmas in New York. Let me show you the must visits during holiday season.
Bryant Park | Christmas in New York
Let’s start with Bryant Park, the heart of Manhattan transforms into a Winter Wonderland with a thousand of lights and a famous ice rink! The 170 x 100 rink features free admission ice-skating, rental skates, skating shows, special events and activities. It doesn’t get much more romantic than this. Hot chocolate to warm up, christmas music and nothing but happy people. It opened on October 30th and will be there until Sunday, March 6th,,2016.
Rockefeller Center | Christmas in New York
The famous Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is the worldwide symbol of the Holidays in New York City. Year after year the lighting of the tree is a big happening, with live performances at the Rockefeller Plaza. Tens of thousands gather round to witness the event live and many millions tune in on the tv. This years Christmas Tree has been lit last Wednesday, December 2nd and will be there until January 6th,2016. A must visit if you’re NYC this December.
Times Square | Christmas in New York
And of course there is the famous Times Square Ball, a time ball located in NYC’s Times Square. It’s on the roof of One Times Square and a prominent part of the New Year’s Eve celebration. This is known as the ball drop, where it descends 43 meters in 60 seconds down a specially designed flagpole, beginning at 11.59 pm and resting at midnight to signal the start of the new year. This event, preceded by live entertainment, is enormous and very very popular. People start standing in line in the afternoon to be sure of a place.
Manhattan is shining | Christmas in New York
In the rest of the city, especially in Midtown, every corner of every street is beautifully decorated. Gorgeous shop windows, special menus in the restaurants, Christmas markets, long lines at Tiffany & Co, department-stores like Bloomingdales are lightened and there is a big Christmas Star in front of the Apple Store on Fifth Ave. Manhattan is shining, more than ever! It’s breath-taking and for sure the most wonderful time of the year!
My first visit to New York was during Christmas and New Year (2011). It was so overwhelming, I’ll never forget this experience!
